PAOK makes soccer cup quarterfinals

PAOK beat Cretan club Ergotelis 1-0 in yesterday’s final day of fifth-round Greek Cup play to make the quarterfinals. PAOK secured its quarterfinal place in the competition with a 55th minute goal from midfielder Thanassis Tsigas. The day’s two other games both ended in draws. Kerkyra and visitor Ionikos played to a scoreless draw and OFI was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Larissa. Repeat matches are now scheduled for both games on January 10 with yesterday’s visitors as hosts. Two more fifth-round cup games are undetermined and are headed for repeat matches. Iraklis will be hosted by PAS Yiannina and Panathinaikos must take on Apollon Kalamaria in Thessaloniki following their scoreless draw in Athens. Repeat games are scheduled for January 10. Besides PAOK, the other quarterfinalists already through are Olympiakos, second-division team Ilisiakos, and Xanthi.
