No early release for Spanoulis, Rockets say

Disgruntled Greek basketball star Vassilis Spanoulis, who had to settle for spending most of his time on the bench in his debut NBA season at the Houston Rockets, faces an uphill battle if he is to cut short his three-year contract and return to his previous club, European champion Panathinaikos, as the 23-year-old guard has said. The NBA team’s general manager Daryl Morey was quoted by local paper Houston Chronicle as saying that it intends to keep Spanoulis. «We’ve invested millions of dollars in salary and scouting on him. We want him to be part of the team,» Morey was quoted as telling the US paper. Spanoulis has returned to Greece for the summer break and has apparently reached an agreement with Panathinaikos.
