Vouliagmeni sink only at the very end

The women’s water polo team of Vouliagmeni came extremely close to winning Europe’s top competition, but eventually lost in extra time. Playing against the hosts, Italy’s Catania, in the final on Sunday, Vouliagmeni played very bravely and took the match down to the wire, losing 14-13. The Greek side led by 10-8 into the last quarter of the match, but then conceded three goals in a row. It scored the equalizer (11-11) with just a few seconds left though, to force extra time. Vouliagmeni led again but the Italians scored two unanswered goals to win the match and the Champions Cup. Therefore the team of coach Alexia Kamenou could not add another European cup to the LEN Trophy which they won in 2003.
