Greece bids for world hoops championships
The Greek Basketball Federation (EOK) submitted its official candidacy yesterday to host the 2014 World Basketball Championships. One day before today’s deadline, EOK expressed its interest to the game’s ruling body FIBA and is a strong candidate to undertake the prestigious event. However, Greece faces strong competition for the awarding of the event, as the other candidates for the 2014 championship who had expressed their interest before yesterday were Italy, Spain, Russia and France, as well as the basketball small fries of Saudi Arabia, Denmark and Qatar. The full candidacy dossiers have to be submitted to FIBA by December 5. The international federation will decide on the championships’ host in April 2009.
