Marcos Baghdatis to miss out on the Olympic Games

Cypriot tennis champion Marcos Baghdatis will not take part in this month’s Olympic Games in Beijing after all. Baghdatis has not managed to overcome the wrist injury that has kept him off the courts for some time now. The tests he underwent last week showed he is not yet in shape to compete. He is also likely to miss the only remaining Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, which begins on August 25. His absence from the tennis courts is set to send his ranking even lower. Last week he was the world’s Number 32. Some people had even expected him to carry the Cypriot flag in the Olympics’ opening ceremony.
