Several top athletes will be competing in today’s «Women’s Gala» track and field meeting in Athens, the latest in a series of events held in the capital Athens over recent years. The event will be held at Filothei Stadium. Russian high jumper Marina Kuptsova, the gold medal-winner at this year’s world indoors with an impressive 2.03-meter performance, will be a star attraction at the event. She will be joined by several other quite capable compatriots, including Yuliya Lyakhova and Victoriya Seryogina. There will be local interest in the event, too, with Niki Xanthou, 1997’s world champion in the long jump competing with a respectable pack of foreign opponents. The field for the 100-meter event includes formidable Russian sprinter Marina Kislova.
