PAOK beats Aris away

The volleyball league leaders had no problems in the 13th round of the championship, with PAOK defeating perennial rival Aris 3-2 away in the Thessaloniki derby over the weekend. Leader Panathinaikos recovered from its 3-0 home loss to Olympiakos last Wednesday with a 3-0 away win at Apollon Kalamarias on Saturday (25-21, 25-18, 25-19), while Olympiakos also swept past Lamia 3-0 at home (27-25, 25-17, 25-21) to stay within two points of the target. Iraklis forced Milon to its first defeat at home this season as the champion triumphed 3-0 in Nea Smyrni (25-18, 25-22, 25-23). EA Patras continued its winning streak with a comfortable 3-0 win at home over Finikas Syrou (28-26, 25-19, 25-23). After a 3-2 away win over Aris (25-16, 20-25, 27-29, 25-22, 18-16), PAOK issued a statement on Sunday condemning the behavior of home fans and particularly the abuse aimed at players Apostolis Armenakis and Costas Prousalis. The match between Ethnikos Alexandroupolis and Kifissia will be played on January 31, due to the international commitments of certain players. After 13 rounds Panathinaikos leads the standings with 34 points, ahead of Olympiakos (32), EA Patras (30) and Iraklis (24), which has a game in hand.
