Three medals in European junior track and field

Greece took three medals in the European Track and Field Junior Championship in Kaunas, Lithuania, including a gold medal in the women’s triple-jump. Voula Papachristou confirmed her progress on Friday with an effort at 14.34 meters that won her the top spot in the event. This is also a new personal record for the 20-year-old jumper. On Saturday, Spyros Lembesis won a bronze in javelin with a throw of 79.37 meters. He is therefore ready to compete at the World Championships in Berlin next month, to which he has qualified. Then yesterday, Dimitrios Patsoukakis added another bronze, equaling the national juniors’ record of Costas Philippidis in the men’s pole vault with 5.55 meters. Today, the town of Rethymno in Crete will play host to the 25th version of the Vardinoyiannia international meet, with the presence of many top-class athletes, such as Cuban triple-jumper Yargelis Savigne.
