Kifissia shaves first point off volleyball leader Iraklis

Lowly Kifissia obliged Iraklis to drop its first point in the Greek volleyball league on Saturday, with the leader winning by just 3-2 at the northern Athens suburb. This has allowed Panathinaikos in second to close the gap with the top to three points thanks to its easy 3-0 home win over bottom side Finikas Syrou on Sunday.Champion Olympiakos, in third, thrashed host Apollon Kalamarias 3-0 on Friday to stay two points behind Panathinaikos, while EA Patra is a further point behind after its home victory over Panellinios (3-1). Patra’s Spanish outside hitter Israel Rodriguez was voted most valuable player of the weekend’s round of games. In the other games played on Saturday, AEK upset PAOK in Thessaloniki to win 3-1 and catch up with its opponent in fifth spot, while Lamia dismissed visiting Aris 3-0. The Thessaloniki side clearly missed injured Nikos Roumeliotis who had previously helped the side climb as high as the second spot earlier this season. Iraklis leads the table with 17 points from six games, followed by Panathinaikos with 14, Olympiakos with 12 and EA Patra with 11. PAOK and AEK each have 10 points.
