Olympiakos win keeps qualification hopes alive

Olympiakos kept its hopes of qualifying for the next round of volleyball’s Champions League alive yesterday with a brave 3-2 victory over Dynamo Moscow in Piraeus. The Reds won 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10 in a highly entertaining match that saw them score their third win in five games in the group. Next week Olympiakos faces Trentino in Italy. In the same competition Panathinaikos suffered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15) loss at Friedrichshafen in Germany, but the Greens can still qualify if they take at least one set at home against Poland’s Jastrzebski next week. The last round of games will be held on Wednesday, January 20. In the CEV Cup there was a double triumph for Greek teams yesterday. Both EA Patras and Iraklis qualified for the last 16 of the competition, where they have been drawn to face each other in an all-Greek battle.
