Larissa acquires Nigeria’s Makinwa

Larissa announced yesterday that it has signed Nigerian international Stephen Makinwa. The striker, who will be 27 this month, will move to the Super League club on a year’s loan from Italian team Lazio, but Larissa will retain the right to buy out his rights in the future. The 1.86-meter-tall player has spent most of his career in Italy, playing for Reggiana, Genoa, Calcio Como, Modena, Atalanta, Palermo, Lazio, Reggina and Chievo Verona. He has 16 caps with Nigeria but did not take part in the recent World Cup, having made his last appearance with the Super Eagles in 2008. He is also known for celebrating his goals with consecutive somersaults. PAOK will learn today who its first opponent will be in the Champions League qualifiers for the first round of the «non-champions» scheduled for July 27-28 and August 3-4. The Greek runner-up will face Zenit St Petersburg, Ajax Amsterdam, Dynamo Kiev, Braga of Portugal or Fenerbahce of Turkey. The draw at Nyon, Switzerland, this afternoon will be followed by that for the Europa League, which concerns Olympiakos and Aris.
