Abducted businessman convinced captor to turn himself in
The 60-year-old abducted owner and CEO of Karamolnegos Bakery, Emmanouil Karamolengos, on Wednesday managed to talk one of his captors into releasing him and turning himself into authorities less than 24 hours after he was kidnapped near his home in Gerakas, eastern Attica on, according to Skai.
Initial reports suggested that the businessman was stopped while driving home on Tuesday night by four men on two motorcycles, who threatened him with violence.
They allegedly led him to a remote location in Keratea, also in eastern Attica, where one of the kidnappers was assigned to guard him. Karamolengos is reported as having convinced his guard on Wednesday to turn himself in to authorities by saying that police would have already found the location where he was being kept by tracking his mobile phone and would have placed surveillance teams in the vicinity.
The captor, an Albanian national, agreed to go with Karamolengos to the Keratea police precinct, where he turned himself in and was placed under arrest. A second kidnapper was arrested shortly after at a road block. He was in a taxi.
According to Skai, police had in fact already located the businessman exactly as he had suggested.
The kidnappers allegedly demanded 2 million euros in ransom to release Karamolengos.
A search is under way for the other suspects.
