Ex-New Democracy MPs Zois and Polydoras to form new political grouping

Independent MP Vyron Polydoras and former MP Christos Zois are due to announce the creation of a new political party on Tuesday.

The pair said they are creating a new, “patriotic” movement that will consist of a “coalition of forces that want the country to go in a new direction.”

Polydoras, a former public order minister and former parliament speaker, was ousted from New Democracy in December after refusing to support legislation allowing banks to foreclose on some primary residences.

Zois has been out of the New Democracy ranks since February 2012, when he voted against Greece’s second bailout. He then joined Panos Kammenos’s Independent Greeks but left the party in December of the same year.

In March 2013, he formed his own party, Nea Mera (New Day).
