Cephalonia schools reopen after 3-week closure due to quakes

Three weeks after the first of two strong earthquakes shook Cephalonia, schools reopened on the Ionian island on Tuesday though damage to buildings meant that lessons could only be held in certain buildings, obliging teachers to conduct the lessons in shifts.

At some schools, prefabricated units have been set up for lessons to be held until damage is repaired to the main buildings.

Only 2.5 percent of buildings on Cephalonia have been slated for demolition by state engineers so far following damage suffered during two large earthquakes on January 26 and February 3.
