Flu has claimed 43 lives in Greece so far this winter

A total of 43 people have died in Greece after contracting the flu this winter, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) said on Tuesday.

KEELPNO added that another 61 people are currently being treated in intensive-care units.

A total of 156 people have received hospital treatment after contracting flu since the season started in January.

Last year, 49 people lost their lives and 113 people were hospitalized.

KEELPNO said that not enough vulnerable Greeks are getting flu jabs.

According to officials, the average rate of vaccination among those at risk is around 30 percent, against about 70 percent in other European countries.
