Financial Crimes Squad officers sentenced for demanding bribe
An appeals court in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Monday upheld a ruling for three Financial Crime Squad (SDOE) officers to be sentenced to five years each in prison for demanding a bribe from a local business owner in exchange for writing off a fine.
According to the case file, they demanded 25,000 euros in order to write off a 100,000-euro fine. The court, however, said that none of the three will have to spend time in prison and can instead buy off their sentences at a cost of 5 euros per day.
