Charges sought against GD chief
The Supreme Court prosecutor’s office on Friday petitioned Parliament to lift the immunity of Golden Dawn chief Nikos Michaloliakos so that he can be prosecuted.
The case concerns taped telephone conversations between Michaloliakos and a party cell from September 2011 in which he allegedly makes threatening and derogatory remarks aimed at journalists, politicians and other prominent figures who had been critical of the far-right party.
In a related development, Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris was cleared by a judicial council on Friday of violating privacy laws in connection with the publication of a video showing him discussing a judicial probe into the party with a close aid of then-prime minister Antonis Samaras, Takis Baltakos.
