NATO meeting on migration moved to Thursday

A meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels to discuss a possible involvement of the alliance in controlling migration flows in the Aegean has been moved to Thursday.

The Greek government would be prepared to approve NATO’s involvement, under the condition that neither Greece nor Turkey would be in charge of operations, a top Greek government official said on Wednesday.

The official said that in case of a NATO operation, Greek and Turkish vessels will have to be restricted to their respective territorial waters.

Any people rescued during these operations must be returned to Turkey, the official added.
