Health Ministry writes off provider's debt to state hospitals

Over 3 billion euros of debts owed by state healthcare provider EOPYY to Greek public hospitals will be written off, following an amendment submitted in Parliament on Monday by the Health Ministry and aimed at putting the beleaguered organization’s finances in order.

The decision wrote off all debts accrued by EOPYY from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2014, toward public health facilities for services rendered to patients insured with the country’s biggest provider.

According to the same amendment, public hospital boards will have their mandate extended by four months while directors removed by the government from their posts earlier in the year are replaced.
