Children's charity head appeals for support, tax exemption

The head of the Hamogelo tou Paidiou (Child’s Smile) charity, Costas Giannopoulos, on Wednesday appealed for additional support, noting that its work had increased immeasurably due to the refugee crisis, and called for charities to be exempted from paying taxes.

Noting that private benefactors had paid the Child’s Smile’s property tax, value-added tax and other levies last year, Giannopoulos said the government should not press nonprofit organizations, particularly those working for children and refugees, for tax dues.
