Turkey ordered to pay 14.3 mln euros over Greek woman’s inheritance
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered Turkey to pay out 14.3 million euros in compensation for violating a Greek woman’s inheritance rights over a plot of land in Turkey belonging to her family.
The case went to the European Court in March 2013 after Turkish courts refused to acknowledge the deceased’s inheritance rights. The woman died in 2009 and her case was taken up by a beneficiary.
According to the court’s verdict, Turkey must pay the woman’s beneficiary 14.3 million euros in material damages, 15,000 euros in moral damages and 10,000 euros in court costs.
