Dozens injured in clashes at Lesvos migrant camp

TAGS: Migration

Dozens of refugees and migrants were reportedly injured during clashes that broke out at the Moria hot spot on the island of Lesvos in the early hours of Thursday. Reports suggested a large section of the refugee and migrant center was set on fire by rival groups of Afghans and Pakistanis.

Three people were transferred to a local hospital, while many more were treated in situ by nongovernmental organizations’ medical staff.

Hundreds of refugees and migrants left the camp during the clashes and spent the night at nearby areas.

The scuffles began at around 11 p.m. Reports alleged that Pakistani migrants accused Afghans of attempting to take control of the camp, while Afghans alleged that Pakistanis were stealing food supplies as well as sexually harassing children and women in the toilettes and bathroom areas located in the camp’s northeastern area.
