Historian of Greek medicine and botany Dr Alain Touwaide, an American of Belgian descent, is scheduled to deliver a lecture on the subject of “Flora Graeca before Sibthorp” at Cotsen Hall, Gennadius Library-American School of Classical Studies on Thursday, June 30. The lecture has been organized to coincide with the “Flora Graeca” exhibition at the Gennadius Library, showcasing watercolors from 10-volume publication on Greek plants resulting from a survey by John Sibthorp, a young professor of botany at the University of Oxford in the late 18th century, and Austrian artist Ferdinand Bauer. The lecture starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
