Another parents’ group votes to block refugees from schools

Two parents' associations voted over the weekend to block child refugees from attending local schools, the latest in a string of objections to the government's initiative.

In the wake of similar decisions in Oraiokastro, near Thessaloniki, and Filippiada, near Preveza, the groups representing the parents of two primary schools in Alexandreia, Imathia prefecture, voted against the inclusion of refugees in school classes even though they would be segregated from their children.

A regional education official who attended the vote, Dionysis Diamantopoulos, said the Education Ministry would decide which schools will be included in the initiative.
