Monastic community receives dusting of snow

The 14th-century Monastery of Varlaam sits perched atop a rock in the fog, as the monastic community of Meteora in central Greece received a dusting of snow Wednesday. Snow fell in many parts of the country, causing some problems in the highlands of the north, including the closure of roads and schools. Snowfall in Attica also prompted authorities to close off part of the road on Mount Parnitha. The cold snap that rolled in on Tuesday on the back of several days of heavy rain is expected to last through most of next week. [Thanasis Kalliaras/Eurokinissi]
