ATHEX: Month begins with stock rise

Stock prices at Athinon Avenue remained on a rising course on Wednesday, albeit at a slower pace than Tuesday. Banks again led the way in growth and trading activity, with the four systemic lenders accounting for 57 percent of turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 767.07 points, adding 1.02 percent to Tuesday’s 759.30 points. The large-cap FTSE-26 index expanded 1.20 percent to close at 2,106.06 points, while small-caps contracted 2.15 percent.

The banks index jumped 3.90 percent, mainly thanks to Attica’s 7.55 percent rise, Eurobank’s 5.56 percent growth and National’s 4.23 percent increase.

Utilities PPC and OTE improved 2.69 percent and 2.35 percent respectively, while Folli Follie contracted 2.06 percent.

In total 57 stocks reported gains, 46 took losses and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover was the highest in over a month, amounting to 64.2 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 56.5 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange advanced 0.31 percent to 74.02 points.
