Clashes break out between migrants at Chios camp

Clashes broke out late on Wednesday night between rival ethnic groups staying at the migrant processing center of Vial on the eastern Aegean island of Chios.

The tension lasted for about two hours before police could restore order at the overcrowded facility and a few accommodation units were damaged, though no injuries were reported.

Officers took 10 people into custody for questioning and subsequently arrested seven of them over their role in the unrest.

Such clashes are not uncommon at migrant camps on the Greek islands, where resources are stretched by overcrowding.
