Maturing presence in song

Throughout her 36-year recording career, vocalist and songwriter Dimitra Galani has never set the world alight commercially, yet her albums have tended to sell gradually but consistently over time. This element of stable progress reflects the artist’s devotion to her work and a willingness to explore. Strange as it may seem, Galani stands out as one of the country’s few singers possessed of a healthy curiosity regarding what goes on around her. She empathizes with the musical exploration of others and, moreover, likes to promote new talent. Her presence in 2004 was intensely felt. Galani released «To S’agapo,» an album for which she provided the music to lyrics by Marianina Kriezi, Myrto Kontova, and Stephania Charsoula. Other projects included a live album documenting a performance at the Athens Concert Hall, as well as a song contribution for Alkistis Protopsalti’s new album. Galani’s singing may have lost some of its range, but her delivery has matured for heightened expression and sensitivity.
