Muse on soccer at Ianos

Soccer is best enjoyed when watched and discussed with friends. With this in mind, a downtown Athens bookstore called Ianos (24 Stadiou St) will offer live World Cup action on a giant screen starting today, to be followed by commentary from artistic and political figures. The bookstore’s match analysis and discussion, scheduled for the World Cup’s second stage of knockout action, will include appearances from writer-politician Mimis Androulakis, actor Thanassis Valtinos, sports journalist Antonis Karpetopoulos, and musician Loudovikos Ton Anogion. These sessions are scheduled for today, tomorrow, June 30, July 1, 4, 5, 8 and 9. In another World Cup-related initiative the bookstore is launching an art exhibition today with soccer-themed paintings by Yiannis Adamakos, Ilias Aidonidis, Elsa Zacharaki, Nikos Kryonidis, Dimitris Mytaras, Angelos Papadimitriou, Costas Papantriandafyllopoulos, Eleni Pavlopoulou, Costas Spyropoulos, Yiannis Stavrou, and Giorgos Hadoulis. The show runs through July 10. Other activity inspired by the soccer action in Germany includes a presentation of books on soccer on July 4 and 6 at 8.30 p.m., as well as a discussion titled «Left-Wing Politics and Soccer» by the journalists Giorgos Hilakis, Nikos Bogiopoulos, Antonis Karpetopoulos, Dionysis Eleftheratos, and Christos Haralambopoulos.
