Maternity leave to be extended by three months

A new law amendment tabled in Parliament by the Labor and Social Security Ministry provides for the extension of maternity leave in the private sector from six to nine months.

This is meant to match the nine-month leave period granted in the public sector.

Alternatively, the leave may be switched to a paternity one.

According to the bill that was tabled in the House on Wednesday, the leave remains voluntary.
