Christmas and Santa baskets

Christmas and Santa baskets

Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced on Wednesday two festive versions of the “household basket” list: These are the “Christmas basket,” which will apply from December 14 until January 4, and the “Santa basket,” which will be valid from December 14 until January 11.

The Christmas basket practically constitutes the expansion of the household basket with four new categories (turkey, beef, chocolate and New Year’s Cake). Georgiadis explained that it will not include traditional delicacies such as melomakarona and kourabiedes, in order not to create unfair competition with bakeries and pastry shops.

As for the Santa basket, as the ministry has named the basket of Christmas gifts, it will be created by the toy stores for the holidays and will include the following: baby items, board games, jigsaws, dolls, construction toys, educational toys, toy cars, remote-controlled gadgets, outdoor toys and imitation toys (puppets, kitchens, tools etc).

With regard to the imposition of fines on some supermarket chains found to have profited from some products in the basket, the minister noted that the monitoring has not been completed, as the explanations of the businesses are expected, and if a fine is imposed, he will announce which products were unreasonably overpriced.
