Tourism arrivals confirm record expectations

The first official data on tourism have vindicated expectations for a record year, as Bank of Greece figures show a 4.6 percent increase in the number of arrivals to Greece in the first three months of the year.

The total number of arrivals exceeded 1 million in the off-season.

Despite the increase in total arrivals, however, the number of tourists coming by air declined by 9.2 percent in the year to April, with the increase coming from tourists arriving overland, from Eastern Europe.

Arrivals are expected to spike from June, according to the bookings made.
