Foreigners trim stock holdings

Adverse global market conditions seem to have shaken the confidence shown by international investors in Greek equities last month as foreign portfolios trimmed their holdings on the Athens bourse by two percentage points, according to data released yesterday. Figures provided by Hellenic Exchanges, the holding group that operates the Athens bourse, show that foreign investors held 51.5 percent of the bourse’s total market capitalization at the end of June versus 53.5 percent in the previous month. «Greek investors were buyers in June with total inflows reaching 565 million euros,» the group said in a statement. The bearish mood has also had an impact on the value of shares listed on the Athens bourse. Its market capitalization dipped to 130.1 billion euros in June from 196.4 billion euros at the end of last year. Daily turnover fell to a daily average of 303.4 million euros, down 36 percent from the same period a year earlier.
