Stocks recover lost ground

The positive climate prevailing across European markets buoyed Greek stocks higher yesterday with gains for listed firms across the board. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 3,403.77 points, 3.60 percent higher than on Tuesday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 4.05 percent to 1,845.94 points. All but one blue chip posted a rise yesterday, led by Mytilineos (up by 6.56 percent), Piraeus Bank (5.99 percent), Public Power Corporation (5.52 percent), Coca-Cola HBC (4.79 percent), National Bank (4.78 percent) and Alpha Bank (4.75 percent). Bucking the trend was Motor Oil, which declined by 1.18 percent. Raw materials, food and drink and banks led the rise, as their sectoral indices grew by 4.58 percent, 4.41 percent and 4.35 percent respectively. Turnover reached 274.8 million euros.
