Mid-caps point way for bourse

Stocks resumed their upward trajectory at the end of the week following two days of losses, amid a positive climate abroad which had had no significant impact on the local market by Thursday’s close. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index rose to 2,372.26 points yesterday, growing by 1.43 percent from the previous day. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 1.21 percent to reach 1,212.63 points. Mid-caps outperformed with a 3.80 percent rise in their FTSE/ATHEX 40 index. Mytilineos led gainers among blue chips with a sharp rise of 12.18 percent, ahead of OPAP (up 5.37 percent), Titan cement (4.48 percent), National Bank (2.14 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (2.03 percent). The biggest losses were for the blue chips of Hellenic Petroleum (down 3.30 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (2.84 percent). Turnover came to 198.1 million euros.
