Athens mayor inaugurates ‘social laundry’

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis is seen Tuesday during the inauguration of a free public laundry service at the Homeless Shelter of the City of Athens (KYADA), near the capital’s Larissis Station. The facility, which includes five professional washing machines and five dryers, will be available to individuals with no access to basic services such as electricity or water. The creation of the "social laundry" was funded by Elais-Unilever Hellas, which will also cater for consumable goods. "The transition from simple charity to a consistent and systematic solidarity requires continuous enrichment of services, based on the individual needs of the people most affected by the crisis," Kaminis told the media.
