Fire at Elefsina refinery quickly placed under control

A small fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at the Elefsina refinery according to a statement released by operating company Hellenic Petroleum. According to the same statement, the fire was rapidly placed under control and extinguished by the site’s firefighting personnel.
Hellenic Petroleum stressed that the incident had no environmental impact and that all safety measures set out by Greek and European law had been followed.
