Search and rescue operation near Evros border

A search and rescue operation was launched by Greek authorities on Thursday after a large group of migrants were identified on an islet within Greek territory on the Evros border river.
According to national broadcaster ERT, a group of approximately 400 people crossed the border near the region of Soufli.
A unit of the Fire Service’s Special Disaster Management Unit (EMAK) is already on scene to assist with efforts to rescue those stranded.
