Airport passenger numbers up 76% in Jan

Total passenger traffic at the country’s airports jumped by 76.3% in January compared to the same month last year and 3.1% compared to 2019.

According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority, the first month of the year saw 2.2 million passengers (arrivals and departures, both foreign and domestic) pass through Greece’s airports compared to 1.25 million in January 2022 and 2.14 million in 2019.

Flights numbers (domestic and international, arrivals and departures) reached 22,176, a 21.7% increase on 2022 but 0.2% decrease on 2019.

The marginal decrease in flights in January 2023 compared to January 2019 but increase in passenger traffic is due to aircraft flying at greater capacity.
