Agorastos concedes defeat in Thessaly governorship

New Democracy-backed incumbent Kostas Agorastos conceded defeat in the runoff for governor of the flood-torn region of Thessaly on Sunday.

“I have called Mr Kouretas and wished him a good term,” Agorastos said in comments to the press, referring to his opposition SYRIZA- and PASOK-backed rival Dimitris Kouretas, who won with a comfortable 60% in Sunday’s runoff.

“I want to thank the people who have supported us over all these years,” said Agorastos, who has been the regional governor of Thessaly since 2011.

“We tried to return that trust several times over with our work. That is why today you see a Thessaly with a plan, with know-how, with a program and with specific works that anyone can use,” added the incumbent regional governor of Thessaly, which was devastated by floods last month.
