Two women arrested near the Bulgarian border for telephone fraud

Two foreign women, aged 23 and 24, were arrested on Wednesday by officers of the Paionia Police Department in the Kilkis regional unit, Northern Greece, for telephone fraud.

The investigation revealed that the two Bulgarian women, together with another accomplice, called up their victims pretending to be a doctor asking for money after claiming that the victim’s relatives were injured and needed surgery.

On Tuesday at noon, their accomplice, pretending to be a doctor, called a 62-year-old woman in the area of Kilkis, under the pretext that her young granddaughter had been injured at school. They managed to extort from her the sum of 18,000 euros.

The police spotted the two women in a vehicle in a Greek village near the Bulgarian border. The car search revealed the carefully hidden sum of 17,200 euros, which was returned to the victim, as well as a replica gun.

Police are investigating their possible involvement in similar criminal acts.
