Five arrested for dozens of robberies in northern Greece

Five people believed to be members of a criminal organization that committed burglaries of homes and businesses, and also stole license plates in various areas of Macedonia and central Greece, were arrested on Wednesday.

The suspects, aged 35, 38, 44, 46 and 49, were detained during a police operation on Wednesday morning in Kordelio and in a settlement of Diavata. The group is believed to have been active since at least February 15, 2024 and have committed, among other things, 26 house burglaries, a burglary at a rural cooperative and the theft of license plates from 5 different state vehicles, according to police.

Their targets were mainly in the wider northern Greek areas of Thermi, Kallindion, Evosmos, Chortiatis and Oreokastro, but also in the areas of Halkidiki, Imathia, Serres, Kavala, Fthiotida and Evia.

The group would select its targets in rural areas and enter the homes and businesses when the residents were away.

During searches carried out at the homes of the suspects, officers found approximately 50,000 euros, cell phones, numerous pieces of jewelry, 25 watches, car keys and two air guns.
