Parallel rallies to block central Athens roads on Friday
More traffic grief is expected in central Athens on Friday as roads will gradually become impassable from 11a.m. until the afternoon-evening hours, with parallel gatherings being planned, on the occasion of the passing of the law on non-state universities and International Women’s Day.
The police said it expects the participation of a large number of people from unions, labor centers, teachers, students and student associations, as well as from other agencies and collectives.
In order to “safeguard the right of citizens to assemble,” police said they will take the necessary traffic measures with diversions and street closures as the case may be, “so that the social and economic life of the city is not excessively disturbed.”
The traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and on a case-by-case basis – where necessary and depending on the movement of the demonstrators – in the streets surrounding Athens University’s historic Propylaia, Omonia Square (Patission, Aeolou, etc.), Syntagma Square (Othonos, Amalias Avenues and Vassilissis Sofias), as well as on Panepistimiou, Akadimias and Stadiou avenues.
