Gov’t defends ERT broadcast decision

Government spokesman Ilias Mossialos on Monday defended a decision by state broadcaster ERT not to broadcast a statement prepared by a group of students who interrupted a news bulletin on Sunday night to highlight their opposition to a new law overhauling the higher education sector.

The government?s decision was based on its conviction not to impose ?the opinions of a small group of people onto society as a whole,? he said.

It remained unclear yesterday whether the protesters had withdrawn from the studio.
