Tax offices to close for two days
Tax offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to a 48-hour strike. The action was called by the tax officials? union, POE-DOY, in response to recent corruption allegations and criticism of their work. The tax office employees also claim that their departments are being undermined by cutbacks.
The imminent strike led to thousands of car owners queuing up yesterday at tax offices to return their license plates in order to avoid paying road tax for 2012.
