State-run KTEOs to close down

Transport Minister Makis Voridis said on Wednesday that state centers conducting vehicle roadworthiness tests (KTEOs) would soon close down, declaring them ?obsolete.?

Voridis did not determine what would become of their employees.

Bribery reportedly thrives at these state testing centers with motorists paying up to 300 euros to have their vehicles pass inspection, while truck drivers are said to pay 700 to 1,000 euros in kickbacks.
