Ex-minister?s wife seeks house arrest to be with son

The wife of former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, Viki Stamati, who has been in custody since last Friday after defending herself on money-laundering charges, on Wednesday appealed to be released and put under house arrest so that she can be with her 5-year-old son.

The 49-year-old, who has been on hunger strike since Saturday, described her detention as ?unfair? and ?onerous.?

Stamati?s lawyer, Vassilis Heirdaris, said his client?s son was being cared for by her 73-year-old mother, who has health problems.
