Questions arise over Paros injury

Police on Paros were investigating the circumstances surrounding the serious injury of a 15-year-old girl on the Aegean island on Sunday afternoon when she was found on a beach unconscious and with severe head injuries.

The girl was in a coma when she was found by her mother at Chrysi Akti, a beach resort on the island?s southeastern coast where the pair had been bathing. She reportedly told her mother that she was ?going to the rocks? for a swim and 25 minutes later was found in a coma with multiple wounds to her head and neck.

Following her transfer to the island?s hospital she was taken by Super Puma rescue helicopter to Athens due to the seriousness of her condition. A doctor said the girl did not appear to have been sexually assaulted and that the marks around her neck did not suggest that someone had tried to strangle her. It remained unclear whether the 15-year-old might have been hurt while swimming as the beach is reportedly used for various watersports.
