Energy scam netted phantom firm 1 mln euros

Police are investigating a number of claims by citizens who said they were cheated out of large amounts of money after making downpayments for photovoltaic energy installations that were never realized.

Authorities have narrowed down their investigation to an Athens office that purported to represent a German energy technology supplier.

They believe that the phantom firm has cheated at least six people out of a total of around 1 million euros.

Two arrests have already been made in connection to the investigation, while warrants are also pending for another two suspects.
