Golden Dawn festival off

A festival organized by the youth wing of neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, originally scheduled to take place on August 3 and 4 in Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese, has been cancelled following a decision by local authorities to revoke all permits for events to be held at one of the port city’s public parks throughout the month.

According to authorities, the decision was reached in the wake of reactions by the Kalamata City Council, local police and professional groups, among others, who said that they could not afford any disruptions from political events at the height of the tourism season. Roadworks being carried out in the park’s surrounding area were also cited as a reason behind the decision.
